Corporate Sustainability
Sustainability Concept: It is sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own and future needs. The importance of sustainable development is to follow changes globally and how everyone can cope or adapt to these changes, such as: Climate change, biodiversity loss, conflict or lack of resources.
Sustainability Fields:
(Environmental field, societal field, economic field)
Environmental Field:
Environmental sustainability aims to improve human well-being by protecting natural capital, such as the atmosphere or soil, and focusing on reducing carbon footprints, packaging waste, water use and its overall impact on the environment.
Social Field:
Social sustainability aims to preserve social capital, through investment and creation of services that form the framework of society, and include attempts to eradicate poverty and hunger. As well as combating inequality. The sustainable business has the support and approval of its employees, stakeholders and the community in which it operates.
Economic Field:
Economic sustainability aims to maintain an intact capital and improve the standard of living, and the efficient use of assets to maintain the profitability of the enterprise over time, and focuses on the part of the natural resources that provide material inputs for economic production. Renewable and exhaustible inputs. Activities implemented to achieve this sustainability include: Compliance, intact governance and risk management.
Corporate Sustainability System BS8900:
The BS8900 Corporate Sustainability System is a sustainable development standard, which provides the foundations for a systematic approach to sustainability in the day-to-day tasks of organizations and business decisions.
An integrated business model for Corporate sustainability, in accordance with international best practices, and ensuring the application of a balanced and sustainable approach to achieving economic activities and environmental and social responsibility.
Sustainable Development Report GRI (Global Reporting Initiative):
The report on sustainable development in GDRFA is prepared according to the terms of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and is issued by the (Global Authority for Environment and Development). It is considered a common global framework of concepts, unified language and standards, characterized by credibility and confidence, for preparing the report in a transparent manner. The report is considered a practice to measure management performance towards achieving sustainable development goals, and to disclose performance and take responsibility for internal and external stakeholders.
Emirates Code for Sustainability:
This system was named "Emirates Sustainability Code", which includes the sustainability approach to managing environmental, economic and social impacts, and it is a system that reflects the commitment of government institutions to try to reduce impacts, manage them and sustain their resources.
It is an innovative model for assessing the level of sustainability in the environmental, societal and economic fields. Moreover, the main activities supporting it, so that the stage of development of sustainability can be known within the three areas, mentioned above, and the matter that can be obtained leadership in sustainability by closing the gaps that impede the process of reaching it.
Maturity of Corporate sustainability:
The GDRFA conducts a periodic review to determine its position on the path of corporate sustainability according to the maturation matrix, and the GDRFA adjusts the matrix when needed to reflect changes in conditions, priorities of the concerned groups, laws, regulations and other changes.
The GDRFA defines the concept of corporate sustainability by applying the following principles, which are used in developing the corporate sustainability matrix:
- Inclusivity
(It is a clear intent or policy to include key stakeholders in the organization's strategy development, corporate planning, and mentoring processes, with a particular focus on engaging people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized)
- Integrity
(It is the commitment to a set of ethical standards, laws and behaviours, where these values are the basis for everything in the GDRFA and accordingly these values are disclosed so that there is no doubt about what supports the current and future actions of GDRFA and their impact on the economy, environment and society).
- Supervision
(It is an accountability site that may be shared or wholly owned by an individual, community or organization).
- Transparency
(It is openness and frankness about decisions and activities that affect society, the economy and the environment so that the necessary relevant information is available and accessible upon request unless there are reasons to withhold it).
