GDRFA Unveils Commemorative Stamp Celebrating the Heroic Return of Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) in Dubai, in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre, has announced it is going to mark the historic return of Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi with a special commemorative stamp. The stamp, bearing the slogan "The Homecoming of the Hero Sultan Al Neyadi," will be used at Dubai Airports on September 18 and 19, 2023.
Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi made history by becoming the first astronaut from the Arab and regional levels to venture into space and successfully return after completing his space missions. His exceptional achievement has garnered international recognition and accolades.
HE Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of GDRFA, emphasised that this initiative comes as part of the ongoing national efforts to showcase the remarkable strides made in the country’s space exploration and scientific research.
He stressed that Sultan’s journey will not only ignite inspiration among the national talents, thus fostering their expertise in space-related disciplines, but will also pave the way for expansive exploration beyond known boundaries, catalysing further growth and prosperity within our society and crafting sustainable avenues for the betterment of humanity at large.
"GDRFA is committed to supporting national milestones, and we truly proud of this new Emirati feat in the realm of space exploration. Sending the first Emirati astronaut to space symbolises excellence and technological advancement in the UAE, reflecting our dedication to progress and significant contributions to space exploration for the benefit of humanity," His Excellency stated.
The stamp, featuring the slogan "The Homecoming of the Hero Sultan Al Neyadi," stands as a testament to the UAE's enduring commitment to excellence in space exploration. It mirrors the country’s keenness to foster development and contribute meaningfully to both humanity and the broader global community.
Positioned as a global nucleus for research and innovation in space science, the UAE continues to solidify its reputation through considerable government backing and investment in this critical sector. These endeavours are expected to culminate in facilitating strategic advancements and opening doors to scientific and economic opportunities for the young Emirati generation and researchers.
It is worth mentioning that the UAE has marked numerous noteworthy milestones in space science in recent years. Notable feats include the launch of the first Arab Mars probe, the Hope Probe, and unveiling forward-looking projects like the establishment of a human settlement on Mars by 2117.
